And we hit the ground running....

As many know, I have been selling my Artisan breads at the local Farm market and was honored to be invited into the home of another Vendor this last weekend, to sell my goods during the North East Ohio Solar home tour. Their home is solar powered which Tom, the Husband, designedthe system himself. She sells All Natural earth friendly Soaps, cleaners, lotions, etc. I hit it off so well with Kim and it may have helped her son and Panda were in the same class last year. I buy her soap for Frog's bad Eczema and her lotion is the only kind which does not sting the patches where she itches so badly. All her recipes are from her Amish/Mennonite roots.

Be sure to *check out her site over here *and see all the amazing cleaners she sells which contain All Natural Ingredients and made with the greatest Quality in mind. I am using her wood polish now and my house has never smelled so nice for so long after using one.
I Look to Kim as a Mentor/Big Sister of sorts when it comes to my new Home based business. She has helped guide me in the right direction and jests as a big sister would over the mistakes I make (like my ugly business cards I settled for after an hour of trying to get the template to work with my comp). She inspires me and fills me with the feeling I CAN succeed.
I believe it is her support which has inspired my latest out reach.
I am running very low on my Long Pie pumpkins and have not found any other growers locally. So the next best thing is Sugar pie pumpkins to use for my Pumpkin Empanadas. Everyone who tastes them LOVES them. I use very little sugar and make my own pumpkin spicing mix with a secret ingredient which I feel sets it apart from the rest of pumpkin pie items.
I use no eggs or milk- all my items are Vegan Friendly. So along with my Artisan breads, I have been offering these Empanadas as a seasonal item.
My search for pie pumpkins brought an epiphany. There is a local long time Family Farm not far from where locals go for their Fall pumpkins and I buy our chicken feed from their new Feed Barn. I came up with a proposal to Mr. Dussell to sell my pumpkin Empanadas using their sugar pie pumpkins which I purchase from them and sell these at their pumpkin tent area a few days a week. I would also let people know at the events I attend during this month that I am at Dussells Farm on those select days and they can order my artisan bread to pick up there along with getting more Empanadas while they browse this Family Farm for their Fall needs.
I brought a loaf of my Sun dried Tomato Spinach basil Italian bread and some Pumpkin Empanadas for them to try and think over my proposal along with my new business card in the bag. Mr. Dussell instantly said Yes! I need to call and speak with the Mrs. just to be sure but I am holding on to to his Yes. LOL.
So now I will be selling my Pumpkin Empanadas on Sundays and Fridays at the Fantastic local Farm Landmark "Dussells Farm! *Check out their site for more of their info*.

They have a great Pumpkin patch tent along with tent maze for children, face painting on the weekends, kettle corn, and of course more pumpkins!...
So if your in the area, be sure to stop in and say hi while you get some very reasonable priced- great quality, Fall decor and pumpkins this month!
I am working on more Upcycled Aprons and hope to have my New Etsy store stocked before the end of the month. I list that site too on my business cards and will be selling my aprons and breads at the School crafts shows during winter.
There is a door by our steps which leads into a small room off the Man cave area/rec room. I will begin prepping that 10x20 space as my custom order pick up office. That way I continue to offer my breads all year to the locals who enjoy my bread and not have to attend any other events to get their loaf each week- some of which require an entry fee.
So The Unusual Farm Chicks are taking off. From growing our own main ingredients for bread and baked good flavorings to utilizing savvy cool clothes into Aprons which can be worn in public without losing style. From grocery shopping, the garden, kitchen and picking the kids up from the bus stop, these Aprons will not be cutting into your fashion sense.
I have this quote in a colored glass dangle sitting on the window shelf above my sink so I read it everyday:
"I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it"
~Maya Angelou

Sometimes the things that happen to us are not great things. We all make mistakes or endure bad times. But we should walk away with the things learned in those times and utilize those lessons into making a better future. Letting go, learning to heal and not let it contnue to let it be like a monkey on your back is the only way to to move past it.
I feel I have walked away from so much in my past and am finally looking ahead with those lessons in hand. My life is about the future and present. No longer letting the past change or affect my family and I.
Hopefully you too will learn letting go and being positive makes you the stonger person. It did take me awhile to get here, but that is where the saying people come into your life for a reason. May it be a moment, a day, a month or season. Each brings something to you and it is up to you to learn why.
Happy Fall!
Sweet Dreams,
~Tammie

Sounds like a pumpkin revolution is happening in your neighborhood. Are you preserving your pumpkins at all, or using them all up? Will you plant more next year, or hook onto the Dussell Farm crop and use them like this year? Oh, I hope this goes well for you... does it last up to end of Oct or go beyond??

Hi Karen Sue~ I am saving the 12 I do have left for our winter use. I am hoping to talk Mr. Dussel into allowing me to do this every October but in following years give the 20% of the sales as a form of fee since I will grow my own long pies. I have over 300 seeds saved and between my husbands garden patch being the new Lon Pie patch plus over half of my hilltop garden for these, I should be just fine on supply for next year. I am working on next years garden plan which will be very little of our personal food. But doing intense gardening with a friendly way to the soil (amending) everything will eventually work out. Who Knows. Maybe we will have that new Farm next year and I can grow 1/4 to 1/2 an acre of those pumpkins and my bread flavoring ingredients.
I will just be doing it through October but will have my cards on hand for those who may want custom pies/empanadas for the holiday season and of course my breads available for pick up 2 days during the week in my future basement office I spoke of. I think frog and I are going to work much more together so she knows exactly how to help assembling these Empanadas. :)
I just feel so giddy over this new venture. It will get our name out there and people who will tell others about us.
Thank you for your well wishes. I am not looking at it as a full time open a store kinda thing. This will remain as a home business and supplement our family income...Hopefully.LOL>

I am truly amazed at your creativity! You are such an inspriration to us who are afraid to follow our dreams or ideas.

Well, I am finally back on and able to make comments rather than sending personal emails (if I HAVE the email!)

Good luck with your ventures - it looks like things are really moving for you out there.

What is the status of the house you found? I read that you are showing your house - have you put a bid on the house of your dreams?

Girl, I just about fell off my danged chair when I saw you are in the Akron/Canton area. I just moved to Kansas from Akron last July '08!! I lived there pretty much my whole life, the last 20 years in the Ellet area.

Found you while nosing around the Mother Earth website - they're going to be publishing some of my photos. I'm an avid Mother Earth mag reader, and Grit too.

I'll be gandering around your blog more tomorrow!

Aww thanks guys. I am still a bit on a roller coaster with what has happened here with the family crisis. I may share more about it in the next week since it is a subject all parents should be more aware of. At first I thought I should not discuss it in "public" but as I thought and experienced more with the system, I knew it is something that more mothers like myself never think would happen. I find by keeping myself busy with this new venture I can keep my feelings locked up but there are those times I just start bawling when my mind catches me off guard.

Now on to a happier subject. Oz Girl- no freaking way! You were so close by! So glad ya' did find me-even if it is over a year late.LOL
Gina~ Thank you for your kind words. I find so much inspiration from so many of you. That Farmers market was the best baby step I have ever done. It opened the door to this new great path.
Connie~ Welcome back!LOL. We have not placed a bid on the house. He is not keen on accepting a bid from someone with a constingancy of we buy yours when ours sells. Especially with this market. It may be a good thing since real estate is "suppose" to go slightly back up in Spring. The place has been for sale for over 2 years now and he is pretty firm to his asking price- which i still a reasonable price. So I am going to think positive and if it is meant to be, it will be. But in the mean time...I still dream about the place and feel like it will be ours. I catch myself dreaming at night that I am in that kitchen turning from the oven to the isalnd in the middle, hearing the kids voices. How silly ay?

Goosebreeder~ Thank you. It is so nice to have found something I love doing and actually make some kind of profit from. I am combining forces with Kim over at The Old Wives Pails for an "avon like" in home party for the holiday season. She has already been asked to do one and they wanted someone who did Vegan friendly edibles so she suggested me and they were happy. I am making up some brochures to advertise us more for in home partyies- take plenty of stuff for samples and such so they can order what they like and when they would want it.
Dussel's Farm should be very productive for me. Especially since most people around there know Panda.LOL. Her Grandpa's first grandchild went everywhere with him in that community for school stuff and of course that was her school area for almost 5 years.

Tammie,
How cool for you!

I have a question. Do you know if you need a permit to sell home canned stuff at farmers markets?

Also, I wanted to tell you about a really cool place that I got garlic. It's near Kent, kinda between Kent and Hudson. It's called Thaxtons Organic Garlic. He sells at the Hudson and Twinsburg Farmers Market. He's doing all kinds of cool stuff with his garlic with a local restaurant too. He has quite a few different kinds, both soft necked and stiff necked. His farm is really awesome, he has a beautiful setup with tons garlic hanging in his barn. Last year he planted 9,000 cloves, the year before 4,000.

He has a Local Harvest site. It might be under "Thaxtons Family Farm".

He likes to barter, we are trading a Thanksgiving turkey for our garlic.

I'm so excited for you! I wish the house that you are looking at was close to us.

Keep us posted, we may run over to Dussels this weekend and find you!
See ya, Beth
