New to us and that blue cheese curing in the Man cave...

The Captain's Nan, who passed away last year, had newer furniture in her home and being that it sold last week we inherited bits of it. 2 love seats and a bucket chair (not shown in this picture of Panda and my niece camping out in the living room).

A Monet picture which I have admired for as long as I had known Nan.And a *Karl Albert Buehr* ( a young lady with parasol) painting:I wish I could find the story behind the painting. Who is she? A stranger? Friend? Is she at a cafe or court yard? What inspired him to paint to her this way?
I become fascinated by such things. I guess the library will be scoured for more information to satisfy my curiosity. I love both paintings and cherish them not only being from nan, but it is the era and feeling of ease they give me.
I also recieved lots of glass pots and pans. An old wooden rolling pin and spoons with ceramic storing crock. I'm sure theres more but I want to make sure I share about the blue cheese I am making, which is curing in the Man cave refrigerator- turned from beer fridge to cheese cave.. for now.

This is what it looks like as of this morning. As you can see a chunk came off with the bandanna wrapping which made for the perfect taste test. and WOW! So creamy, rich, sweet with a suttle tartness. Amazing and impressive. It still has another month of curing and a new batch will be started this week. I hope it is just as wonderful in taste as my first.
I am addicted to patchouli now. I use the OLAY BODY BOTANICAL FUSION BODY WASH - HYDRATE.
The scent of patchouli stays with me all day and others have commented how the scent stays with them even after I leave. Not too strong, just a breeze of my scent. I do not wear perfume. So this is perfect with the wonderful benefits of Patchouli for my moods and has even made a difference in my socializing anxiety- its gone! I had no idea of its help for depression or anxiety, so when i read more up on the essential oil (started mixing it with mineral therapy lotion from St. Ives), I was surprised to discover that is why I have been more at ease and balanced feeling.
More blueberry picking and cheesemaking this week along with a big Broiler chicken butcher evening soon. Look forward to shooting more skeet and will be bringing my girls (hopefully they fit and the chickens too somehow in my Vue. Don't laugh. I'm serious. LOL).
Nobody here to milk Fernie so she has to come along and have a visit with her son.
Sweet dreams,
~Tammie

Yay cheese! I wish you could be here today we went out in the garden and pulled a nice haul of turnips, the pickling cukes, regular cukes and turnips!! Which brings me to my next question..Have you ever made pickles? I came across a recipie in my Back to Basics book and it says to soak them in brine overnight and that to make the brine is 1/3 c salt and 1/2 gal water...um can I use table salt? Give me a call if you want. If anythying I could call ya back I have free Long Distance.

Good going on the furniture and art Tammie! The closest we have to any "art" hanging here is the wedding quilt Lisa made for us 8 years ago, or pics of me from various salmon fishing trips lol.
Well...time for me to admit something since you brought up patchouli. (eek) I told you last visit about my patchouli soap addiction, now its gotten a bit worse! Lisa got some patchouli oil in a spray bottle from (i think) bath & body works. Its for misting your pillow. Yep..this 6'4" construction worker mists his pillow every night! hahaha hope the guys at work never find out! But I gotta tell ya, I sleep like a baby with that stuff.
I'm still kinda laughing at your new found love of shooting. I'm trying to picture you with a big 'ole 12 guage lol. In the fall, the boy scouts in barberton sponser a skeet and turkey shoot field not far away. Lots of fun and the funds go right back into the scouts, good time and good cause. Might wanna check it out.

Hi Steph! I have had my niece here so have avoided the phone and used the time she has given- by occupying my 3 heathens- to get some deep cleaning done. not to mention the paper which had your number is no longer on the fridge...Bet those little fingers used it for a master piece of hers.
If it did not specify what kind of salt, I would do a smaple batch with the table salt. i have never made pickles but had hoped my cukes would be abundant for making this year a first. Total bust on them. I have about 4 growing and none in the garden but a vine by the roses popped up with some.
Grass in the garden? LOL You should see the neglected state mine is in. The skeeters have kept me at bay from weeding in the cooler hours and the heat/kids do not allow it during the day this year. gues i gotta go play more army crawl with lil' man in search of more produce.
Chris~ Patchouli is amazing! I ran out of my bar soap and picked up the body wash while getting The Captains (he uses the wash now since he does not like to wear cologne). Misting the pillows? Love it! LOL.
I will be sure to get pictures of me and my new found love I call "my Stogey". Its not a cheap gun so it will be awhile before I get my own. In the mean time I just borrow danny Boy's. I will have to find more out about that boy scout event. I am very interested in participating. Hopefully I can borrow my Stogey for it. It has a small recoil pad on the stock butt and I was able to shooot all night with that. I tried another gun, with out the pad and there was some difference in the kick. I can handle it but the pad made shooting more comfortable for longer lengths of time.
I am still on cloud nin over my new skill and being so good my first time up. I even dream skeet shooting! Ha!
how are your new ladies? Theyshould be laying within the next month for you. I hope the Americauna gives you an olive green or blue egg. the first one is so exciting but the smile you get with each one lasts forever.

I wouldn't use table salt - it has iodine and makes things not pretty. Use canning salt.

Yes, the Americauna eggs give ME a smile every time I see them and my customers prefer my eggs because of the color!!!

The new furniture looks great , but the paintings are absolutely wonderful.

I love the scent of patchouli too. I just got a bar of patchouli goat milk soap from a friend , it's wonderful. I've been using a P. lotion for a few years now , love it. I didn't know the scent was good for depression & anxiety , thanks for sharing that info.

That cheese looks amazing! Wow!

I have been liking patchouli lately too - Zum soap has a zum bar fragrance of patchouli and mint or orange. Oh. My. I use it for my hair too.

I've just been getting a 60's lecture from my wife (who was a "preacher's daughter hippie") and she was telling me how the hippies would use it to cover up certain "aromas." I need to get somke of thte oil and see what all the hoopla is.

Your cheese looks just right! (not that I have ever made any)

My pickle cukes got hurt by a late frost and I have some really ugly ones!
