Berry hunt and more garden life

Panda turned 9 on the 4th of July. Her request for her special day was to camp outside by the fire-ALL of us... We grilled out and roasted marshmellows. Cuddled up in the tent after some great conversation, star gazing, and lightning bug collecting. Running around in the morning sun clad still in PJ's, we made clover flower bracelets and Nature Crowns. (which consisted of long grass stalk, small mulberry branching and a few Zinnia flowers.
I gave one Delaware rooster away-Thankfully. Now I have the Americauna roo which has become rather mean to the others. The Friz has taken the most punishment of his ways:
I heard him crow 1 day and the next he is attacking Mrs. Frizzle in the garden. Absolutely no gentlemanly ways in that guy. So if he is here when I get the date set with a local guy...Off with his head! Nobody messes with The Friz! She has become my shadow as of late. Just chatters away to me and if I sit, she is begging to get up in my arms. She truly has become my deep favorite. Such a little charmer. She knows who controls the corn.
Trying to decide if this is a sugar pumpkin or a delicata...hmmm. See "unorganized gardener" in the profile....Yep, thats me.
And this came up in Lil' Man's garden where we planted the "seeds for kids" packet from Bountiful gardens. No idea what this:
Or this is:

Any ideas? I suspect some kind of sugar pea for the last but maybe I'm way off. Has the leaves kinda like the sweet peas...
I got 2 cups of Blackberries from our secret trail. I picked 6 cups of Mulberries today while #2 & #3 slept. I have all of them freezing on trays and am in the process of making Farmers cheese as I type. Which will soon be turned into Blue Cheese for my Father in law- who has a deep love for the Blue cheese. The man LOVES the stuff. What could make a better birthday present for him from his Daughter in law-an item from a goat I raise, love, tend to and milk. Then lovingly took that milk from all the before mentioned work and turned it into his favorite cheese- which has to cure for at least 2 months which is why I am making it now...
Getting excited for this weekend. Tuesday's brother is having me up for some shooting lessons and Skeet shooting fun- Fireworks in the evening. O.k. Its not for me. But he made a point to invite me and make sure I get to come up to shoot clay. Gotta check on Zeus while there. Make sure his band is working. I will bemaking cheesecake from Fernies milk and a few different flavored cheeses. Gotta go pick more blackberries to put on the cheesecakes....
Sweet dreams,
~Tammie

That first picture from your son's garden, the red flowers, look like Scarlet Runner Beans to me.

Been lurking here for awhile, so... hello to you! :)

Tammie, It does look like a sweet pea. All those cheeses sound so good. If you look at yesterday's post on my blog I passed on an award to you! Have a nice week ~Kim

As I've said to friends, "mean poultry are volunteered for the stock pot". Looks like you have a volunteer!

The first one looks like a "Painted Lady" form of scarlet runner bean to me. Edible and tasty. The second one looks like an ornamental sweet pea.

I want to know how to make blue cheese! Please do tell.

Yes, I agree with mist - scarlett runner beans - hummingbirds love them and they make great dried beans - so very pretty - the pods are humungous! Save the seeds for next year and put them on a trellis - they will take it over and you will have awesome flowers and beans. I will try to find a picture of mine that I had at Murphy's.

Hello Mist! And welcome!
D.A~ I stashed him in with the meat birds. He just hides while in there but at least no one is getting hurt.
Thanks Guys. I have never encountered that bean, well other then green beans, in the garden. This year is full of firsts.
Lyssa~ Hi and Welcome! The blue cheese is very easy. I am following the recipe at Frankenhauser cheese house (look on my side bar where I hop for cheesemaking)-where he uses a piece of blue cheese to act as the culture to his Farmers cheese recipe. I am currently in the draining stages of the Farmers cheese. Tomorrow is culture day! I can't wait to try it! I just hope I can get past the Farmers cheese. It looked a bit soupy when I started to ladle the cut curds....

I get inspired when I read your posts. I am interested in cheese-making too. I don't know about the goat part tho! I like how you are livin life!

Goats are great as long as you just keep the females..Bucks are just too stinky in rut season for small land owners, in my experience. My girls are well behaved and although they serve purpose, they are also treated/act like pets. Having just 2 is perfect. I love that I can make cheese from milk we get from our little farmette. I do want a dairy cow when we move to larger land, but will keep our 2 does (which may include 1 or 2 of their kids).
I have to give high credit to my husband for indulging my ways. Some would say he even spoils me. I am fortunate that in this day and age I can stay home with our children and live this way due to his hard work and dedication with his career. After they are all in school I will not go out in the work world- I do not play well with others, as he likes to say... He backs my plan to have a large green house and raise culinary herbs for local restaurants and farmer markets. The dairy project would just be too much expense for start up and so on. Which i like my greenhouse plan better and just keep my dairy animals for family enjoyment.
I guess he does spoil me.LOL. But at least I am a gracious spoiled wife. :)

Your plans sound excellent. I would suggest you look into quail egg marketing to restaurants too. They are so easy and lay every day!

Yep he's definitely cool, I think if we got yours and mine together they would hit it off lol. They'd bond over our zaniness. Oh, cheeses, I LOVE cheese. Your gardens look amazing and I am a bit envious of it and your greenhouse plans. I really wish we lived out there in OH. Not to mention it seems to be cheaper than living in Southern IL at the moment lol.
